Dr. Jiang Du is a Professor of Radiology and Bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego. He received his B.S. in technical physics from Beijing University in 1995, and Ph.D. in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003. He has developed many ultrashort echo time (UTE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques for high-contrast imaging of short-T2 species such as bone, ligaments, tendons, menisci, deep cartilage, calcification, iron overload, lung, and myelin, which are ”invisible” with conventional MRI techniques. He has also implemented quantitative UTE MRI techniques to map short-T2 relaxation times (T1, T2*, T2, T1r) and tissue properties (water content, bound water, free water, macromolecular proton fraction and content, exchange rates, susceptibility, perfusion, diffusion). These techniques have broad applications in the musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems of the body. Dr. Du has published over 200 research articles, 30 book  chapters, and one book. Dr. Du has chaired many conferences, workshops, and sessions, He has served on the peer review committee of numerous organizations and private agencies in more than 10 countries. He is an editor or editorial board member of over 10 journals, and an active reviewer for more than 40 journals. Dr. Du has received numerous awards, including the RSNA Research Scholarship, Young Investigator Award from the American Heart Association (AHA), Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research (ARBIR), Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM).
