Professor George K. Matsopoulos graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 1989. He received his M.Sc. in Bioengineering from the University of Strathclyde (UK) in 199. He obtained his Ph.D. in Bioengineering Unit & Signal Processing Division from the University of Strathclyde (UK) in 1993. He is appointed to a faculty position as Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. He is the Director of the “Biomedical Optics and Applied Biophysics” Laboratory, and from 2022, he is also the Director of the “Biomedical Engineering” Laboratory, National Technical University of Athens. He has extensive experience in teaching in more than 10 Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses in the field of Medical and Biological Engineering within the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the NTUA as well as in other Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Programs with other Greek Universities. His research interests are within the fields of Medical and Biological Engineering and specifically in the areas of biosignal processing, medical image processing, informatics in healthcare, telematic healthcare applications, and computational neuroscience. He has published two Books (one in English (as Editor) και one in Greek), more than 160 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, 33 book chapters, more than 180 papers in the proceedings of International scientific conferences (most of them in IEEE Proceedings), and more than 26 papers in the proceedings of Greek scientific conferences. He has supervised 20 Doctoral Dissertations (Ph.D.) that were completed and over 300 final year projects for undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is a Fellow (Class 2024) of the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineers (IAMBE), Fellow (Class 2024) in the European Alliance of Medical and Biological Engineering and Science (EAMBES) and Senior Member of IEEE. Prof. G.K. Matsopoulos has been Co-ordinator and Principal Investigator of over 100 European and National research programs in health care sector with emphasis the development of algorithms and systems for supporting diagnosis, evaluation treatment and/or prognosis of diseases including various types of cancer, obesity, cardiac diseases, etc.
