Christopher M. Jewell, PhD, is the Institute Professor of Translational Engineering in the Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices at the Clark School of Engineering at UMCP. He is an affiliate in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (UMSOM), a full member of the Greenebaum Cancer Center, and a research biologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Jewell is also Chief Scientific Officer of Cartesian Therapetics (NASDAQ: RNAC). His work at the interface of immunology and materials science harnesses new technologies to study antigen-specific immunity, and exploits these processes for antigen-specific immunotherapies targeting cancer and autoimmunity. Dr. Jewell’s work has been supported by ~$30M in funding. He has received over 50 awards–including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the White House, and authored over 100 papers in top journals, including Nature Materials, PNAS, Nature, Science Immunology, and Nature Biotechnology. Dr. Jewell is a fellow of numerous organizations, including the Biomedical Engineering Society and the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering.
